Kudos to Paradise Center for the Arts!

Wow!

Today I happened to drop by the Paradise Center for the Arts as Director Tami Oachs was opening the mail…and it was a check for $300,000 from The McKnight Foundation! The grant was to help many Faribault entities in finishing their wonderful renovation project of this old building. Here are the blueprints for the first floor and the second floor of the project. Congradulations to both McKnight and the Paradise Center for the Arts! –Dave

48 Hour Film: Premieres Tonight

By Dave Machacek

Brendon, Alvin, and Aleshia

Over 80 teams took part in the 48 Hour Film Project from the Minneapolis area. ArtOrg’s submission will be shown in the group of about 14 other films which play tonight at 9:15pm at the Riverview Theater at 3800 42nd Ave S., Minneapolis, MN. Our film is called “Masked Destruction”.

All teams were given the same three items to incorporate into their film: the line of dialog was “they will get them, if we let them”, the prop was a portable music player, and the character was Jill or Jason Meyers–a veterinarian. Each team was also given a “genre” that their particular film had to be–and our team received the genre “Horror”. Pretty scary! Join us tonight!

The Bad Plus, June 22

Reid Anderson, Dave King, and Ethan Iverson

ArtOrg is pleased to present “Summer Solstice with The Bad Plus” on Friday, June 22.

The evening will start at 8pm at the Carleton Concert Hall, and at 10pm will continue with a party in the ArtOrg Gallery with CD signing, refreshments, and art exhibit. We are also pleased that Rob Curto’s Forro For All has agreed to start the concert with a short set.

The Bad Plus continues to amaze the music world with its eclectic approach, and their newly released album “Prog” is enjoying great reviews, and has appeared as high as #6 on the Billboard Jazz Charts. Click here for The Washington Post’s review of Prog, and click here for Prog on Amazon. We are both delighted and humbled to be part of The Bad Plus June concert schedule which includes gigs in Paris, Amsterdam, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal, and New York City. Seeing Reid Anderson, Ethan Iverson, and Dave King of The Bad Plus is an experience you will not soon forget! See their website and some clips on YouTube.

Rob Curto’s Forró For All will open the concert with a short set dedicated to the sound of Northeastern Brazil’s “forró pé de serra”. Rob has brought together a group of New York’s and Brazil’s finest musicians which are currently touring the U.S. and Canada.

After the concert, a short 4 blocks away, we welcome everyone to a gathering in our ArtOrg Gallery. The Bad Plus will be signing CD’s, we will be serving refreshments, and a group of artists will be kicking off their “Summer Solstice Exhibit”. Artists in the gallery will be Cristina Maria O’Brien, Kari Alberg, Xavier Tavera, and others. A special treat will be Cloud Cult band member and painter Scott West who will be showing several original works including paintings from that band’s latest release “The Meaning of 8”. See an introduction to this exhibit here.
