Plains Art Museum Successful and Video Completed

By Dave Machacek

Gustavo Lira Steamroller PrintThe recent Plains Art Museum Dia de los Muertos project has been completed successfully, and a video describing the events is finished. Here is a link to the 14-minute high-definition video describing the event and the artist works. All nine artist prints turned out very well, and the art is now hanging at the museum until January 3, 2010. A special Day of the Dead celebration is planned in Fargo for November 7 from noon to 3pm. ArtOrg is also planning a Minneapolis showing of the prints for November 14, as well.

Thanks to everyone who helped out on the project. From Plains Art Museum, we particularly thank Director Colleen Sheehy, Andy Maus and Rusty Freeman. We also thank Rick Swearer who helped on site in Fargo, Jim Bohnhoff who helped with carving artist blocks, and Clark Webster and Eric Johnson for insuring that the steamroller ran perfectly. In the transportation of our large steamroller, we would like to thank Taylor Truck Line, and Northfield Tractor and Equipment, and in Fargo, H&S Contracting and Titan Machinery. Switzer Nursery and Landscaping deserves huge thanks for the loan of a truck and trailer for transporting other items to Fargo. Linda Burdell did a bit of translation for the video, and Forecast Public Art helped us with the insurance for the events. Falck Financial Services gave us the use of their parking lot for a warm-up printing event in Northfield. Graphic Chemical and Wet Paint provided supplies for the project. Thanks to you.

Perhaps the biggest thanks, however, go to ArtOrg board member Greg Mattern of HDMG for the wonderful camera work for one day in Northfield and another two days in Fargo. Greg also edited this footage and gave us a super record of the project that will live on to document and honor the project. Greg again went above and beyond the call of duty. Thanks, Greg!

Lastly, special thanks go to the artists and the Grupo Soap del Corazon for the wonderful art and statements made on video about their works. The artists were: Douglas Padilla, Xavier Tavera, Cristina Maria Tavera, Alexa Horochowski, Luis Fitch, Gustavo Lira, Pepe Kryzda, Steve Nuno Nunez, and Kari Alberg. Kari came through with a wonderful title block that tied all the works together.

The number of prints made in this project are extremely limited. If you are interested in acquiring one of these works, please contact us.
