Weisman Steamroller Print

THIS EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

The ArtOrg project named “The Northfield Day of the Dead Steamroller Prints” has been accepted into the permanent collection of the Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota. Thanks to everyone involved in the creation of this wonderful project! We have arranged a reception to honor the artists and their contributions on Thursday, January 3 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the Weisman Museum. There will be a short program at 7:30 pm. The 104-foot-long version of the project will be on display. Located on the east bank of the Mississippi River in a distinctive stainless-steel structure, the Weisman can easily be located on the attached map.

The Weisman has accepted the entire set of 13 prints into its collection, and specifically the set of prints numbered 2 of 5. The set numbered 1 of 5 was a special print and printed on one long piece of canvas and is used for display purposes. The long print was, in fact, display at the Northfield celebration on November 1 of 2006 and 2007. Also in 2006, the print traveled to the St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, to Buntrock Commons at St. Olaf College, and to Minneapolis twice. Some individual paper prints are still available for sale and go to support the printmaking studio and its educational programs. But make sure to measure your walls: each print measures four feet by eight feet in size!

See the prints here. A special thanks to the artists of the big print: Claudia Billy Baca, Kendall Bohn, Paloma Barhaugh-Bordas, Anselmo Cornejo, Betto Limón, Gustavo Lira, Steven Nuno Nuñez, Maria Cristina O’Brien, Douglas Padilla, Juan Jose Palacios, Cristina Perez, Richard Swearer, Kari Alberg, and Xavier Tavera. (A full list of helpers to the project can be found here.) Join us to celebrate the accession of this important project into the permanent collection of the Weisman Museum!
