Steamroller Helps Student and Prepares for Fargo

By Dave Machacek

Tina Tavera, Alexa Horochowski, Gustavo Lira, Luis Fitch, Dave Machacek, Rusty Freeman, Colleen Sheehy, Xavier Tavera, Douglas Padilla Caleb Sage Hendrickson is a student in the art department at St. Olaf College wanted to incorporate a big steamroller print into his senior show. ArtOrg responded and dusted off its 20,000 pound large Buffalo Springfield steamroller to help him. We are also in the planning stages for printing for another Day of the Dead project in Fargo, North Dakota in October of this year. This event is being planned by The Plains Art Museum in conjunction with the Latino artist group called Grupo Soap del Corazon.

Calebs PrintCentral to these projects is the smooth operation of our 50-year-old steamroller. Thanks to Eric Johnson and Clark Webster for helping with the re-enlivening of this old roller after 2 1/2 years of inactivity–the last time the roller was used was for the 2006 Day of the Dead Steamroller print project in Northfield. The roller was purring like a little kitty when they were finished!
