48 Hour Film Project

ArtOrg has registered a team to compete in the 2007 48 Hour Film Contest. In a nutshell, all teams are given a prop, a character, and a line of dialog that they must integrate into their film. These three items, plus the additional “film genre” variable which is different for every team, are given to all teams on Friday, June 8 at 7pm. The completed 7-minute films must be dropped off 48 hours later!

Experienced film editor Aleshia Mueller will be directing the team. Aleshia is a board member of the Minnesota Chapter of the Women in Film and Television Society International, and has worked on teams that have entered the 48 Hour Film Project before. See her bio on the WIFT website.

Brown Box Notes by Hope Cook
ArtOrg is proud to announce the exhibit “Brown Box Notes” by Hope Cook who is an artist and former printmaking instructor at Minnesota University at Mankato. The opening reception will be this Friday from 6 to 9 pm at the ArtOrg Moving Walls Gallery.

In this series of nearly 100 small handmade boxes, Hope explores the meanings of individual quotes from Kenneth Patchen’s book Sleepers Awake. Each small box contains a message, and the boxes are presented in groups with titles such as “thoughts on life”, “thoughts on art – artists”, and “thoughts on war”. Here is a small video of Hope Cook discussing the exhibit. Read her complete Artist’s Statement here.

ArtOrg will be hosting a reception for the artist on Friday, June 1 from 6 to 9 pm at the Moving Walls Gallery at 200 Division Street (riverside entrance). The show continues through June 10, and is open Thursdays and Fridays from 5 to 8pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4pm.
