ArtOrg Editorial for “Progress Edition”

Northfield News

[ Here is the complete text from our recent Northfield News article from that paper’s Progress Edition. All of these topics remain unlinked in this article, we ask you to use the search box in the lower left corner of this website to get more information on the topics in this article. The article we sumbitted was slightly longer than what appeared in the Progress Edition. ]

Last year was ArtOrg’s first invitation to submit a report to the Northfield News Progress Edition, and we thank you again for this opportunity. Our group has made much progress during the last year, and this provides a great forum to reflect on that progress.

This year, we would like to simply get right to the heart of what is important to us: action and results. We submit this year a simple list Continue Reading…

ArtOrg Website Report

September 11, 2007 By Dave Machacek

ArtOrg Website

The web has been very, very good to ArtOrg. We have had our website for over three years now, and the activity on the site is significant, and the content is rich. ArtOrg loves to be a player in the Northfield “blogosphere”, and is reaping the benefits.

We have organized the site as a blog and post regularly about events and news. We are proud of nearly 100 content-rich posts. Blogs are a great way for organizations to get the information out to the public–the key is that your blog posts don’t just appear on your own site, but go forth into the ether and are aggregated by friends such as Northfield.Org.

We have over 20 videos on Google Video and have received over 10,000 people viewing our content. We chose this service to Continue Reading…

Printing at The Anderson Center This Saturday

July 5, 2007 By Dave Machacek

Every Kid Gets To Print

ArtOrg is traveling to Red Wing’s Anderson Center this Saturday to take part in their annual Summer Celebration of the Arts. ArtOrg will be helping kids make prints using a little steamroller. ArtOrg did this style of steamroller printing (small scale for kids) last September for a Minneapolis Institute of the Arts Family Day. Here is a photoset of the 100 prints and happy kids from last September. We are scheduled to print from about noon to 4pm–the entire celebration runs from noon to 7pm.

Also, please contact ArtOrg if you would like to experience our current “Summer Solstice Exhibit“–this gallery exhibit will come down next week, but it is definately worth a look!

Kudos to Paradise Center for the Arts!

June 12, 2007 By Dave Machacek

Wow!

Today I happened to drop by the Paradise Center for the Arts as Director Tami Oachs was opening the mail…and it was a check for $300,000 from The McKnight Foundation! The grant was to help many Faribault entities in finishing their wonderful renovation project of this old building. Here are the blueprints for the first floor and the second floor of the project. Congradulations to both McKnight and the Paradise Center for the Arts! –Dave

48 Hour Film: Premieres Tonight

By Dave Machacek

Brendon, Alvin, and Aleshia

Over 80 teams took part in the 48 Hour Film Project from the Minneapolis area. ArtOrg’s submission will be shown in the group of about 14 other films which play tonight at 9:15pm at the Riverview Theater at 3800 42nd Ave S., Minneapolis, MN. Our film is called “Masked Destruction”.

All teams were given the same three items to incorporate into their film: the line of dialog was “they will get them, if we let them”, the prop was a portable music player, and the character was Jill or Jason Meyers–a veterinarian. Each team was also given a “genre” that their particular film had to be–and our team received the genre “Horror”. Pretty scary! Join us tonight!

The Bad Plus, June 22

June 6, 2007 By Dave Machacek

Reid Anderson, Dave King, and Ethan Iverson

ArtOrg is pleased to present “Summer Solstice with The Bad Plus” on Friday, June 22.

The evening will start at 8pm at the Carleton Concert Hall, and at 10pm will continue with a party in the ArtOrg Gallery with CD signing, refreshments, and art exhibit. We are also pleased that Rob Curto’s Forro For All has agreed to start the concert with a short set.

The Bad Plus continues to amaze the music world with its eclectic approach, and their newly released album “Prog” is enjoying great reviews, and has appeared as high as #6 on the Billboard Jazz Charts. Click here for The Washington Post’s review of Prog, and click here for Prog on Amazon. We are both delighted and humbled to be part of The Bad Plus June concert schedule which includes gigs in Paris, Amsterdam, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal, and New York City. Seeing Reid Anderson, Ethan Iverson, and Dave King of The Bad Plus is an experience you will not soon forget! See their website and some clips on YouTube.

Rob Curto’s Forró For All will open the concert with a short set dedicated to the sound of Northeastern Brazil’s “forró pé de serra”. Rob has brought together a group of New York’s and Brazil’s finest musicians which are currently touring the U.S. and Canada.

After the concert, a short 4 blocks away, we welcome everyone to a gathering in our ArtOrg Gallery. The Bad Plus will be signing CD’s, we will be serving refreshments, and a group of artists will be kicking off their “Summer Solstice Exhibit”. Artists in the gallery will be Cristina Maria O’Brien, Kari Alberg, Xavier Tavera, and others. A special treat will be Cloud Cult band member and painter Scott West who will be showing several original works including paintings from that band’s latest release “The Meaning of 8”. See an introduction to this exhibit here.
