The Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos is an important Latino holiday. We have collected videos and other stuff from projects and celebrations in one place on our website. Please go here for a page we call “Learn About Day of the Dead”. The videos in particular may provide a good resource to explain the Day of the Dead traditions, because we have artists talking about their Day of the Dead inspired art, poet Ray Gonzalez reciting his related Day of the Dead works, and Day of the Dead scholar Juanita Garciagodoy talking about her book on the subject. The traditions of Dia de los Muertos are quite a bit different than Halloween!

The recent Plains Art Museum Dia de los Muertos project has been completed successfully, and a video describing the events is finished. Here is a link to the 14-minute high-definition video describing the event and the artist works. All nine artist prints turned out very well, and the art is now hanging at the museum until January 3, 2010. A special Day of the Dead celebration is planned in Fargo for November 7 from noon to 3pm. ArtOrg is also planning a Minneapolis showing of the prints for November 14, as well.
Thanks to everyone who helped out on the project. From Plains Art Museum, we particularly thank Director Colleen Sheehy, Andy Maus and Rusty Freeman. We also thank Rick Swearer who Continue Reading…

The ArtOrg collaborative print project called the “Twenty Views of Dundas” was recently accepted into the permanent collection of the Fredrick R. Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota. We congratulate not only the artists and printers of the set, but also the people of Dundas who welcomed us into their homes, family photo albums, and historical records. Each of the twenty-one artists interpreted an aspect of the City’s history in a work of art, and working together with an art printer, created hand-pulled sets of prints in a very limited edition size. In this way, important aspects of Dundas have been Continue Reading…

ArtOrg has maintained two different facilities in downtown Northfield, but now after five years we are closing the gallery. Our office will be moving into our 2500-square-foot Printmaking Studio and Classroom on the riverside floor of 314 Division Street in Northfield. Please see the attached page for a retrospective of the gallery at 200 Division Street, where we held an average of eight significant exhibits per year over the five-year run. Watch for other gallery exhibits and activities in other locations—for example we are working on a large exhibit (that is too big physically to fit in the old gallery space) for late fall.
