April 16 St. Cloud Cult Print

March 30, 2011 By Dave Machacek

ArtOrg announces the artist collaboration called the St. Cloud Cult Print, which will be completed at the April 16 Cloud Cult concert for St. Cloud’s 26th year of the Mississippi Music Fest. Over 250 printing blocks created by kids and adults at 17 different venues near St. Cloud will be used to make up the overall design inspired by Earth Day. Artist Kari Alberg is putting together the overall design, and reprinting of the 250 blocks is being done in the ArtOrg studios near Northfield. Then, the day before, the illustrator Mary GrandPre (of Harry Potter fame) will contribute a special painting to the design, and finally during the concert, the Cloud Cult artists Connie Continue Reading…

Five Sculpture Project Progress

March 28, 2011 By Dave Machacek

ArtOrg has been working on the Five Sculpture Project, and the artists have made considerable progress of late. We are excited to push the project down the home stretch to completion and public exhibition. The artist Sharol Nau was the first to finish carving her 3 x 4 x 8 foot block, and then next came Ray Jacobson and Mac Gimse. Juan Jose Palacios is also almost finished. The artist and ex-Minnesotan Ed White was here last weekend and made considerable progress as well. Photos of the ongoing artist work are located on the page that ArtOrg has devoted to the project. On the right side of the page, one can link to that photo documentation as it happens.

Ed White was the last artist to start carving on his block, and we enjoyed having Ed here from California last weekend. In the town of Julian, near San Diego, he runs an arts group called Continue Reading…

The Peace Caterpillar

December 6, 2010 By Dave Machacek

Over 300 kids and adults came together this summer at five different venues in Hennepin County, Minnesota to create printing blocks, and these blocks were used in the summer to make paper prints that the artists made and took home. The printing blocks were squirreled away by ArtOrg to create a community mural called “The Peace Caterpillar”. Please go to our main page about the project where we have photos of all 300 artists, a video of the process, and photos of the printing of the Peace Caterpillar in our studio. The opening reception for the project will be held this Thursday, December 9 from 4 to 5:30 pm in the bottom level in the Hennepin County Government Center. There will be a cake, cider and music for the event. All artists and artist-congratulators are welcome to attend. The Peace Caterpillar will be on display from December through January of 2011.

Big Print Block Party: My Print?

November 19, 2010 By Dave Machacek

ArtOrg has just released a map of where the art from the 1180 artists can be found on The Big Print. The areas are organized by the ten venues where the prints were created. Please go to our main page which describes the project. The artists, friends, patrons, and art lovers of any kind are invited to our event this Sunday to celebrate in Buntrock Commons at St. Olaf College. The event called The Big Print Block Party will run from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday November 21, 2010. We will have a brass quintet, several Hardanger fiddle players, and a large cake decorated with the pattern of the big print. We will have two experts measuring the print this day, for world record adjudication purposes: Northfield Mayor Mary Rossing and John Mark Lucas, who holds the title of Chartered Engineer in the United Kingdom. There will comments and a photo taken of everyone in front of the big print about 3pm.

Big Print Block Party 9/21/10

November 10, 2010 By Dave Machacek

The Big Print Block Party is ArtOrg’s event to celebrate everyone who made a print with us during the 2008 Thousand Print Summer and everyone who helped make this project happen! Please go to our main page which has links to 1180 photos of everyone holding their paper print, and a video documenting the last event of 2008 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. There is also a one-minute clip of all of the 1180 artists flashing by in one minute. We have an application running for the world’s biggest print, and this could make The Big Print Block Party truly special. The event is on Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 2 to 4 pm, and will be held right in front of the work. The Big Print is located at Buntrock Commons at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. Just get to Buntrock Commons, and you can’t miss The Big Print!

Please consult new hours for the show on our calendar. The opening for the exhibit inaugurated our new gallery located about eight miles north of Northfield, and over 150 people attended the opening event. Photos from the opening can be seen here. Day of Dead Closes Wednesday

November 3, 2010 By Dave Machacek

Nineteen large-format steamroller prints created by ArtOrg and Grupo Soap del Corazon are displayed very nicely in the Groot Gallery in the Dittman Art Center–but the exhibit closes next Wednesday, November 10. Be sure to take a trip to St. Olaf to see this wonderful display (and drop in Buntrock Commons to view The Big Print, as well). A photoset of the exhibit is located here, and several photos of the opening event are included. A special thanks go to the St. Olaf Art Department for this wonderful opportunity.

MAPC Events Successful

October 21, 2010 By Dave Machacek

Events scheduled in Northfield for the last day of the Mid America Print Council’s conference in the Twin Cities went very well. An engaged group of artists and printmakers enjoyed a great tour to no less than nine printmaking-related events. Highlights for ArtOrg were the return of Nuno Nunez to give a talk about the “Twenty Views of Dundas” project that was displayed at Carleton College, a lithography demonstration by Continue Reading…

The Big Print is Up

October 20, 2010 By Dave Machacek

On 10/16/2010, and just in time for the so-called Northfield Day of the MAPC conference, ArtOrg’s The Big Print was completed and installed in Buntrock Commons at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. Covering both sides of a wall measuring 82 feet wide and 36 feet tall, and containing art from 1180 kids and adults, The Big Print is rather special. For a complete page devoted to all aspects of the project, please go here. The Big Print is available for viewing every day during the extensive open hours of Buntrock Commons. Please watch our announcements here as we organize an opening event for all of the participants–especially those 1180 artists who made art that has been integrated into The Big Print. This opening will occur in early November. Thanks to all who made this a success!
