Records Fall at Monarch Festival

September 12, 2010 By Dave Machacek

Two major records for ArtOrg’s “Thousand Print Summer” small steamroller printing event fell at the 2010 Minneapolis Monarch Festival. Nearly three-hundred prints were completed by kids and adults, and the total number of prints for this years activity surpassed two-thousand prints. The numbers are interesting facts, however, but the real magic of the event is seen in each individual work, and the special satisfaction that can be seen on everyone’s face as they proudly display their print. We have photographed many of the artists and their prints, and that can be seen at this page on the ArtOrg website. The Monarch butterfly was the theme of the day, and many wonderful butterfly scenes were created. The Grupo Soap del Corazon was there with artists Savita Continue Reading…

Minneapolis Monarch Festival

September 7, 2010 By Dave Machacek

ArtOrg and the Grupo Soap del Corazón have been chosen by the Minneapolis Monarch Festival to perform the event called the “Thousand Print Summer” on 9/18/2010. Several artists will be there working right next to the kids and adults to make prints with the general theme of the Monarch Butterfly. An interesting aspect of the project will be the established artists (Savita Bettaglio, Peter Morales, Luis Ornelas, and Douglas Padilla) from the community that will create works alongside of the other kid/adult artist participants. The printing blocks will be printed at the festival with a small steamroller, and everyone will leave with a wonderful paper print. ArtOrg will retain the printing blocks however, and perhaps reuse them and integrate them into a larger collaborative piece sometime in the future. Come do a neat butterfly print, and check back here for photos!

Zigmunds Priede Opens Oct. 17

August 28, 2010 By Dave Machacek

Zigmunds Priede will be exhibiting several new works in his exhibition titled “Time Revealed” which opens on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at the new ArtOrg Gallery. Mr. Priede was a printmaking professor at the University of Minnesota from 1964 to 1978, and was Master Printer for Universal Limited Art Editions starting in 1962. At Universal, he printed seminal works for Rauschenberg, Johns, Newman, Motherwell, Rosenquist, Frankenthaler, Dine, and others. At the University, he inspired many students in art, and some students to indelible printmaking careers of the highest level. We are expecting several surprise guests at the opening. Please go to our page devoted to this special exhibition to learn more about Zig and his work.
The exhibition is scheduled to open on Sunday, October 17 at the new ArtOrg Gallery at 26601 Chippendale Avenue, Northfield, Minnesota 55057. The gallery is located Continue Reading…

Steam Steamroller Printing

August 15, 2010 By Dave Machacek

On ArtOrg’s recent “Thousand Print Summer” trip to five branches of the Northwest Regional Library, we printed for about 350 individuals at Red Lake Falls, Thief River Falls, Warren, Greenbush, and Warroad. See page devoted to this junket here, and if you made a print at one of these events, try to find the photo we took of you and your art. We also had one extra day, so we decided to travel to Rollag, Minnesota and make prints with a real steam-powered steamroller. Thanks go to Frank Orr, Jim Briden, and others of the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers who helped make everything easy. We printed the title blocks from our 2006 Northfield and 2009 Fargo steamroller print projects. If you would be interested in purchasing Continue Reading…

1200 New Artworks Created

July 8, 2010 By Dave Machacek

If nineteen June days could talk, they would probably boast they created many new prints. Our run of steamroller printing at 19 venues in 20 days turned out very well, and we estimate that we helped artists create nearly 1200 new works. Almost 900 of these prints were made for branches of the Great River Regional Library based in St. Cloud, 200 for a Minneapolis Institute of Arts family day, and about 100 for a City of Dundas celebration. We captured nearly every work by digital photo, and those photos have now been posted on our website. We would like to give heartfelt thanks to our sponsors The Great River Regional Library, The Minneapolis Institute Continue Reading…
